Congratulations to Dior's grandsire, DeNiro.
Each year the Hanoverian Verband chooses one exceptional stallion who has had a profound impact on the breed to be named the stallion of the year. It was very exciting to learn this week that De Niro has been given that honor for 2008. Standing at Klosterhof Medingen, De Niro has been a successful Grand Prix competitor, winning the 2001 German Championships for professional riders and the 2003 German Dressage Derby.

De Niro passes on his excellent rideability, movement, type, and expression to his offspring. He has sired 22 approved sons and 99 States Premium daughters.

We lost our Corli

RIP baby girl Corli

May 2003-July 2008

I put up a photo of Corli taken on Monday night.

She was still herself, happy to go out walking, even though she spent much of her time laying down in the shavings.

Last night Frank ponied Corli out and she was looking tired and her eye was swollen shut from the hard ground. Today he hand walked her a bit, couldn't pony her, so it was time.

I had Dr. Schilling look at her on Sunday and she recommended going to the equine hospital. On Monday, Dr. Etchart looked at her and recommended colic surgery, but he said if we couldn't afford it, he said Monday was not the right time for euthanasia.

I think we all needed to get used to the idea. And I needed the opinion of two different vets on the severity of the situation.

Corli gave me "a look" on Tuesday that made me wonder if she was saying "enough." She had the most incredible eyes, VERY large and deepset like Coromino's.

Such a beautiful young mare. I'll miss her terribly.

I love eye studies. Here is Ripley. What a kind old soul he is.

Here is Ripley by Routinier out of the imported mare, Lucy Mae. He is a 2007 gelding. He is now a yearling but looks the same. Lovely neck set and big kind eyes.

This is Deusi out of Natasha by Ikoon. "Didi" has a really impressive pedigree loaded with predicates. She is very bold and friendly, has a gorgeous refined head and lovely movement.

NO foal. Mark agreed the mare sure looks pregnant.

Instead she has a follicle on the right ovary and a relaxed cervix.

So do we do something or sit the year out and hope for a better economy?

This is Tiffany Beck riding Toby in a show last summer. Toby is the first offspring out of Mariah so he is a half-brother to Zip Code, Abigail and Bonnie Bedelia. Tiffany took a year off to have her own baby so they are showing at 3rd level and determined to go FEI. Go Tiffany and Toby!

Here is Viroko with his new owner Chandre. They are a super match. He is a big boy with plenty of bravado and Chandre is an experienced rider from South Africa.
